On August 9, 2024, the Center for Human Rights at The Catholic University of America co-sponsored a press conference organized by Stop Forced Organ Harvesting by the CCP, featuring harrowing firsthand testimony from Cheng Pei Ming, a man who claims to have survived a forced organ harvesting operation in Communist China. The event, held in Washington, D.C., brought international attention to one of the most shocking and underreported human rights crises of the modern era.

Cheng Pei Ming recounted his traumatic experience as a prisoner in China, where he was subjected to medical procedures against his will, narrowly escaping death as part of what human rights advocates identify as a systematic campaign of organ harvesting targeting religious minorities, particularly Falun Gong practitioners. His testimony served as a powerful witness to the human cost of state-sponsored brutality and underscored the urgent need for global accountability.

The event was emceed by Dr. Sen Nieh, a Fellow at the Center for Human Rights and longtime advocate for persecuted faith communities in China. Additional remarks were offered by Robert Destro, former Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor and also a Fellow at the Center. Both speakers emphasized the moral obligation of free societies to confront these crimes against humanity and give voice to survivors like Cheng.

The Catholic University of America’s Center for Human Rights unequivocally condemns all forms of brutality, especially torture and coercive medical practices targeting religious and ethnic minorities. Through public events like this one, the Center continues its mission to expose grave injustices, educate the broader community, and advocate for the dignity of every human person.
